Vineyard Workamping It appears that several people on this site are looking for "workamping" opportunities. My wife and I are occasionally-mobile full-timers until I get a large vineyard constructed in the Texas Hill Country aka Texas Wine Country. I am the Vineyard Manager for what is soon to be the largest vineyard in the Texas Hill Country. This spring (April 15ish) I will be installing 86,000 new grape vines. Well, I personally will not be installing that many as there is not enough time in the day for me to do that. This is where "Vineyard Workamping" comes in. I am looking for 6 to 8 able-bodied "workampers" to help me get these 86,000 vines in the ground and happily growing. Vineyard Workamping Job Tasks: 1) Riding an automated planter feeding new vines into the planter, 2) Planting vines in pre-drilled holes in places where the automated planter cannot plant e.g. 5 to 8 vines at the end of each row, 3) Making sure each of the 86,000 vines is correctly placed in the soil aka stepping on the dirt around each vine to make sure that there are no air pockets, 4) Placing cardboard protection tubes around 86,000 vines, 5) Inserting 4' tall aluminum training stakes into the soil by each vine, 6) Raking loose soil around the vines to make sure that the soil is even, 7) Rolling out drip irrigation line by newly planted vines to make sure that they get water on the same day they are planted, 8) Assisting in stretching wire to support drip irrigation line and vine training stakes, and 9) Attaching drip irrigation line to support wire. This Vineyard Workamping project will last from 6 to 8 weeks. Each week will be 35 hours (four 8 hour days and Friday is a 5 hour day), Monday through Friday. This will give you time to enjoy the Texas Hill (Wine) Country. While the work is not heavy, it is constant, so please apply only if you have good mobility, can spend the day in the sun and have lots of energy. The Vineyard Workamping project will be at three different vineyards all located within a few miles of downtown Fredericksburg, Texas (https://goo.gl/maps/Mm9D7cNbW5F2). Now for my travel director spiel. Fredericksburg, Texas is a beautiful tourist town with a heavy German culture and architecture. Every year over 1.7 million visitors come to tour and enjoy Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas. Fredericksburg is a distance of 75 miles to the San Antonio River Walk and the Alamo, both a must do. There are 80 wineries/vineyards in the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg is located 59 miles from the beautiful Hamilton Pool Preserve (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boy224JogsU) and Jacob's Well Swimming Hole another must see. Proceed another 20 miles and you will find yourself in Austin, Texas. You can always visit Luckenbach, Texas, close to one of our vineyards, "Where Everybody Is Somebody" (made famous in Luckenbach by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson). I am only touching on the things to do around Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country. Now for the important part. The pay is $11.00 per hour plus a paid for RV slot at The Vineyards RV Park in Fredericksburg. You will be responsible for the electricity which is $0.12/kwh. In order to qualify for the paid for RV slot, you must commit to being part of the vineyard installation team for a minimum of one month. If you are single, we will pay for 1/2 of your monthly RV park rental fee. The hourly pay and RV park come to a total of $14.36 per hour. We will issue a 1099 at the end of 2019. If you are interested, please contact me with a response to the post so that I can secure a position for you and make sure that you have an RV slot.
