RVers Helping Find Stay-in-Place

  • “Full-timers” consist of thousands of construction, energy, and medical workers, living mobile out of necessity for their jobs, as well as retired and gig-economy folks who sold their “sticks-and-bricks” homes to live a nomadic lifestyle.

Displaying the entrepreneurial spirit for which the RV industry is known, businesses and services are adapting swiftly to help these displaced RVers. Here are some of the ways they are helping:

FMCA: Released an email campaign to its members advising on the best way to support campgrounds.

Escapees/Xscapers: Offering extensive information and resources on their website. The club is also engaged and lobbying with other industry partners to advocate for state and local policies to let full-timers stay-in-place.

KOA (Kampgrounds of America): Jumped on the bandwagon to lobby for keeping their parks open.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Resorts: Keeping parks open with reduced staff and new sanitation practices.

RVTravel.com: Quartzsite boondocking areas full, new rules in place.

    Oregon RV Policy

Oregon is allowing stay-in-place to extend to state and county RV parks as well as commercial parks. If you are staff or veterans, dig in for the duration. I assume no new customers though.

    Using Dogs to Detect COVID-19

UK scientists are embarking on a new venture to train dogs to sniff out the scent of COVID-19, hopeful that they could come to offer a non-invasive way to detect the disease and help stop its spread.

“Our previous work demonstrated that dogs can detect odors from humans with a malaria infection with extremely high accuracy – above the World Health Organization standards for a diagnostic,” says Professor James Logan, Head of the Department of Disease Control at LSHTM.

“We know that other respiratory diseases like COVID-19, change our body odor so there is a very high chance that dogs will be able to detect it. This new diagnostic tool could revolutionize our response to COVID-19 in the short term, but particularly in the months to come, and could be profoundly impactful.”

    The Latest in Van Conversion

    Freedom Van Conversion

Living full-time on the road is becoming so popular that even people that fear driving a small Class C motorhome can get in the game.

The new Ram Promaster-based Chongo conversion from Freedom Vans brings the feel of home to the inside of a van. It supports digital nomads with a solar-powered lithium electrical system and 4G boosting, packs a dual-block expandable kitchen that wraps the chef in food-prep space, and includes other amenities more common in residential living than van life.

It’s a warm, cozy motorhome that lets you call any parking space or patch of dirt home. The Chongo doesn’t have any type of bathroom compartment, but it does have an outdoor shower and a portable composting toilet tucked away in a cabinet below the front side of the bed platform. A water heater delivers hot water at the faucets.

Provide your own van, short or long wheelbase, and Freedom has a big kitchen conversion for you. Freedom works with Mercedes Sprinters and Ford Transits, as well as Promasters. Basic pricing at $35K to full kitchen shown here on a long-bed, $125K.

    Say What You Think?

From Stories to Fuel Your Mind, the philosophy that you, perhaps, have been longing to return to public awareness is here, Say What You Think And Don’t be Apologetic About It. While you are sitting around waiting for this virus phase to pass, spend a little quiet time with this. Darius Foroux brings this back with interesting topics to ponder.

I once published an article about why I avoid toxic people. I mentioned that I think less than 1% of the population has values. You would not believe how many people were offended by my opinion. ‘How do you know it’s less than 1%!’ And a bunch of nasty words. Two people even emailed me a whole essay about why it’s ‘wrong’. People were truly hurt. Ironically, in the same article, I mentioned that if you feel hurt, that’s because you decided that.”

There is no Truth, Only Opinion

Are facts also the truth? The answer is no. Confusing, right? It’s just like life. For example, does God exist? I don’t know. I’ve never seen any evidence. Does that mean God is not real? It doesn’t matter what I think. If God has an impact on the way you live, it’s true for you no matter what scientists say.

When Nietzsche said that there are no facts, he meant that we, as human beings, ultimately rely on our interpretations of reality. There’s no way to confirm reality objectively.
