Our tasting room hostess, Jen, was super nice and helped us get settled beside the vineyards. Nice views of desert mountains & great sunset. We tasted all their wines and some of the library offerings, wound up buying a case of 2011 Sangiovese. They are pistachio nut farm as well, so snacked on them at length .
Owners were offsite during our visit, but we met them at a wine festival later and they were great folks. Highly recommended stop.

How far in advance did you call them? We will experience our first Harvest Host stay Friday and continue till Saturday with different hosts traveling to Florida. Don’t want to be too early or too short of notice

Jerry, we generally try to call 24-48hrs before arrival.

We've only stayed at a few, and I always call after they're open the day before.

Happy to hear about the pistachios. I had it in my list to visit some pistachio area in AZ.

We arrived in a major rain storm so we didn’t get much of a tour of the grounds. But our 30’ Airstream fit nicely on a level cement pad. Sue, one of the owners, was extremely nice and hospitable. I agree with your comments entirely
But I have to comment about a couple o wineries that required a minimum of $30 spending to stay on their property. We decided not to go there even though we usually spend that anyway. Kind of like a mandatory gratuity..

That is not true! It is not a requirement to purchase anything in order to stay at a HH site if you find nothing you want. These hosts know that too. They can not enforce any sort of minimum charge either.

There are apps and websites that give dump locations. Some Pilot/Flying J stations do have them. The My Pilot app allows you to filter to show locations with RV dump stations. Many campgrounds will allow you to dump for a fee if you are not staying there.

The Roads We Roam: January 31Just spent the night at the Hangar 25 Harvest Host site in Big Springs, TX. As two former USAF airmen, it was an amazing experience camping on an Old Air Force base! The host was incredible and it is well worth your time to have her give you the tour.
On the Road NaturallyFebruary 7
We stayed there the night of 1/31. Very interesting tour. Loved crouching into the B52 cockpit
The Roads We Roam: January 29On our recent travels from Florida to Texas, we stayed at 3 different Harvest Host sites & loved them all! They were: Tallahassee Automobile & Collectibles Museum, Bayou Teche Brewery and Tara Winery.
The Mountains January 29
We stayed at the museum in Tallahassee. What a great display of collectibles. Really enjoyed it. Will have to check out the other two sometime.
Living In Beauty: January 15RV water conservation techniques, tips and suggestions. How do YOU save water while dry camping at a Harvest Host location?
Water is an albatross, a mixed blessing for RV travel. A precious commodity but a burden to carry. Partnering with water rather than fighting it is the key.

Paper plates/cups, use very little dishwater in small tub and empty down the toilet, also cold shower water down the toilet. Water is our friend in the black tank. We can go 3 to 4 days with a shower each day for both of us.

We also added the Golf Pkg at the same time to get more places to stay because Harvest Hosts doesn't have a lot of places to stay as yet by itself. Harvest Host's big claim to get you to join is that you can park "FREE" at beautiful places across the country, but once you join you find out this is not EXACTLY true.
There is some spendy purchasing "expected" at each place you stay. Well, if it is "expected," this is not "FREE" camping as your membership promised. This is a big disappointment. It is also disappointing that you're expected to purchase alcohol at these places. We don't drink very much, so this is a problem. And then, the big bomb hits me with the Golf Pkg. Prior to signing up, you can't look at which Clubs are in the Pkg, I tried to look at a few near us at the time. After I signed up, I got my surprise. The first three Clubs between Florence, OR and Bandon, OR actual require that you PREPAY for a round of golf at $75-$80 in order to dry camp in their parking lots. I was floored. They actually think I am going to pay that kind of money to park in a simple parking lot that hasn't even been leveled for motorhomes. And think about it, I'm not going to golf alone, so I'd have to pay the fees for my spouse too (another $75-$80) plus the costs to rent clubs and cart if need be. We are talking over $200 for a night of dry camping in a parking lot. And to top it off, these courses claim they need to charge it because they don't offer restaurants to cover the costs of us parking in the lots. WHAT COSTS? So we park in an unlevel parking lot, then my wife has to cook our dinner (because there is no restaurant) all after she has played 18 holes of golf and traveled all day and then we must leave early in the morning before the golfers show up so we can find a restaurant to get some breakfast because there isn't one at the Club. This for $200 a night to park in a beautiful Golf Course. I could have stayed in a Hilton Hotel with Concierge Service/Restaurant/Pool/Hot Tub and Free Parking for that.
When I emailed Harvest Host with my complaints, they were unaware that the Golf Courses planned to charge. They had not checked with them prior to accepting their group. They started calling them, but admitted it would take some time to call all of them. So far they had only found 10 that said they are charging course fees. Their option to me is, just don't stay at these places. Well, that's just great, isn't it?
Now I have joined something that I may or may not be able to use.
Once the other Clubs find out they can charge for people to stay, they will start charging too. It's just perfect business sense. Who wouldn't?
So, Harvest Hosts should stop advertising that it's members can park for "FREE" because you CAN'T or WOULDN'T in good conscience. This is plain MISREPRESENTATION on Harvest Hosts part in my opinion. This is my WARNING to any new people looking to join. less

I also was unable to find any information about the golf courses but unfortunately I did add that to my membership. Before I do though, I must take issue with what appear to be a lot of "freeloader" members. Every newsletter and/or communication I ever received from Harvest Hosts included an exhortation to be follow a set guidelines when staying with a Host. Since I can no longer sign in, I cannot quote it but I'm virtually certain it strongly recommended making a purchase. However, I can go to the public Harvest Host site (as I just did) and read the FAQs. They distinctly say "Please" buy something to show your appreciation and also they "suggest" you spend at least $20.00. less

I am not a cheap or thankless person or someone who is unwilling to leave tips.
