September 19, 2019I have a generac q55-g generator in my RV. It will start but dies within a minute. The air filter and fuel filter is new and oil is full. The temperature sensor is broken and has a jump wire on it. I am at a loss

XC2 September 19, 2019 I had a similar problem with a different brand. Turned out to be the fuel pump. I ended up getting a cheap Chinese replacement from Amazon. That was nearly 3 years ago and I have used it quite a bit without issues. tinyurl.co...  more

Rickanddoretta Wheeler September 19, 2019 Agree with XC2 if you can unhook the fuel line crank the generator you should get a steady stream of fuel also if you have a fuel shut off check that might be partly closed

Jenna & The ZARGON September 19, 2019 My first impression is that it is a FUEL issue.  Starts off getting a good supply but then... ????  Ya might want to check for anomalies between the fuel tank and the generator.  Is there a fuel pump in the system?  Check that t...  more

Curtis Nissly September 19, 2019 The thing that leads me away from the fuel pump is that as soon as I hit the start button to, it starts running again till I let go of the star switch

DonChap September 19, 2019 if it has sat for any ling of time it might be the jet in the carb

Bud & Jackie Beamenderfer September 19, 2019 I would check your transfer switch, the transfer switch has coils in it and when it gets used it will overheat and the coils will separate with age

RvLouie September 19, 2019 Seen this before on Motor Homes and sometime it is simple....Most Motor home Generators run off the 2nd tank when this tank gets down to a 1/4 tank the generator will not run, its to make sure you do not get stranded with no gas running your generato...  more

Curtis Nissly September 19, 2019 I plug the RV into the generator. The RV has 3/4 of a tank of gas

Jenna & The ZARGON September 20, 2019 Yes, the generator should run whether you have the breakers on or off and it IS independent of the Transfer Switch.    BTW:  When you finally figure it out.. please post.  Enquiring minds want to know!!!   ;)

David Leslie Jasper & JoJo September 20, 2019 Our Onan acted almost exactly the same.  It was the water temperature sensor that was bad.  The generator will start but without knowing the water temperature, the brain will shut down the engine in just a minute or two.

Curtis Nissly September 20, 2019 The oil pressure switch was bad. I found a small engine mechanic that came to me. He had me up and running for about$80. I am so happy that he didn't keep replacing every part.
