We have started our research to become fulltimers. For all that have dishwashers in your RV, is it worth losing the space? Do they work effectively?
My next question is washer/dryer. Which system is better washer/dryer combination or separate appliances? I have heard horror stories about laundry taking all day to do in the washer/dryer combinations.

I can highly recommend the separate stackable washer/dryer units.... we used a combination unit overseas, and they were a nightmare. The separate ones work best for us. We don't have a dishwasher, so can't address that - though I can say that I don't miss it. And appreciate the extra space I have that is *not* being used by a dishwasher. less

We have a Splendid combo. I use for small loads, like doing whites and delicates. It works great but I can see if you wanted to do larger loads it could be time-consuming. I usually take larger loads, (sheets, jeans and such) to a laundromat.

Thanks for the input...gratelly appreciate it.

These are external units that look like huge water filters and run $200 to $300. We have the water softener, since Arizona and other places have hard water, but we do not have an automatic dishwasher.
If you want everything done in one day, then a combination washer/dryer is not for you. We have a vented Splendide washer/dryer combo and it takes 5 to 7 loads to handle a week of laundry, with each load taking 3 to 3-1/2 hours. Not a problem for us, since we do 2 to 3 loads a day, but many don''t like that schedule. Sheets are two loads, towels are two loads, the rest are clothes. We very rarely use a laundromat. less

Did you add the dishwasher on your own after purchase?
Debbie LockeyOctober 11, 2019
No dishwasher here. But, I love my stackable washer and dryer! I wash everything except my king quilt and the quilted sofa covers. You do have to do smaller loads, but it's all good.
Tony & Robin October 11, 2019If you have the space and can handle the weight, stackables are better. If you get the all-in-one unit, be sure it is the vented model (we have the Splendide).

As for the dishwasher, we installed the Vesta a few months ago and love it. Before we got it, the dishes would pile up in the sink and on the counter. Now they go right in the dishwasher and when we have a full load, we run it. Then we put them away at our convenience. less

So you had your dishwasher installed after purchase. Was it difficult? How much space did you lose?

You do have to do more frequent, smaller loads, and it can take 3-4 hours for a complete wash/dry cycle. However, because you don't have to switch between washing and drying, you can set it and leave it alone. You can also separate out washing and drying cycles if needed, so you don't HAVE to run the full 3-4 hour cycle if you don't want to dry the clothes.
The one complaint is that if you dry your clothes completely and do not take them out right away, you end up with a huge ball of wrinkles. You can get around that by drying them ALMOST completely, but taking them out just before they are completely dry. Or....just make sure you take your clothes out as soon as it finishes drying..... less

We didn’t have one, bought it, installed it and hated it. We now do our dishes by hand and are very happy to do so. Our just wouldn’t dissolve the soap effectively and it was just a big pain in the neck.

Had a dishwasher never used it, paper plates and five minutes at the sink. laundries are never too far away or you can soak clothes in the sink and hang outside or in the shower. Good luck with all that weight. less

Thanks for your input. Was the dishwasher installed when you purchased the RV or did you add it later on? What brand of w/d do you have and were they installed at purchase?

My hubby added a drawer Dishwasher in this rig but our other one came from factory with one. Other MH also had a combo also
But this one has a stacked Whirlpool which I love.

I can wash 3 loads before emptying the grey tank. Running the dryer while traveling (on the generator) is a good way to exercise the generator. Looking for a map/driving app that will provide us a "radius" map for both miles and hours.

My thoughts on the washer and dryer are if it's a combination then if the dryer breaks the washer is also broke. If they are a stacked arrangement then when one breaks you don't have to replace both and you can wash and dry at the same time. I do much of the laundry at home. I will be washing load two while drying load one.

For those of you who have a dishwasher, do the dishes travel better in the dishwasher or in the cabinets?

The stories are true about the combos! We now have stackables. The dryer is convection dryer and it doesn’t create any heat or humidity in the RV.

As far as the washer dryer issue goes, we went with just washer. We found that some campground/resort washers laundry rooms leave a lot to be desired. Their dryers are more apt to be "cleaner" so of needed we'll use just them.....if the cost isn't astronomical. We did go with a larger studio apartment sized washer. We opted for the LG 2.3.cu/ft front loader. The smaller Splendide's are only 1.7 cu/ft capacity. We can usually do 3-5 days worth of laundry, including towels etc. all in one load. Even full king sheet sets will all fit. Since we bought the LG, they have come out with a combo ventless unit if you have the space and are leaning that way. But, since we don't know what kind of rig you have all the above are based on the space we have in ours.

LG. Reliable & very, very quiet. We had stacked residential units in our condo for 8 years & now this studio sized in the RV for 4 years. Absolutely no issues what so ever.
