October 26, 2019My wife and I bought a 2011 Jayco Jay Feather Sport camper this year. This is the first time we are winterizing it. We just got a fitted tarp for it and will cover the camper this coming week. Is there any tricks I need to know to help protect the roof ac...  more

Jenna & The ZARGON October 26, 2019 Yeah... sounds like overkill to me. Not sure how putting a frame around the AC would protect it from snow... but maybe falling branches?  But, if you have falling branches you might want to park it under a suitable structure, like a garage or barn et...  more

J&A Demitrus October 26, 2019 I am not concerned about branches falling on it. Nothing that big near me.

Andy & Maureen T October 26, 2019 Yes, thats overkill. You will need to put some padding on the ladder, any antenna, etc. It will keep the tarp from rubbing through (caused by wind). We use the foam pipe insulation found at the hardware store. Don't forget to put some wood under your tires.

Queen Flamingo October 26, 2019 I had a pop up camper years ago and what I had trouble with was mice.

Ray & Ann October 26, 2019 We found a mouse nest but never a mouse, I'm guessing it moved out when the dog moved in.

J&A Demitrus October 27, 2019 We are putting Irish spring soap shavings and dryer sheets in our camper to help prevent mice

timlsalem October 26, 2019 I have never been anywhere that the snow was so severe.  A cover is good and if feet of snow is predicted or expected through the winter I would design something to go under the cover that will have a peak running along the center so the roof doesn't...  more

SouthParkSteve October 26, 2019 I have used a tarp over my trailer here in the mountains of Colorado (so a foot of snow overnight is a normal storm....) for several years now.  You don't need to build a frame for the a/c, but you never want to allow a large amount of snow to build ...  more

J&A Demitrus October 27, 2019 Our camper is in a campground where the roads are not plowed and we have a few hills where people have gotten stuck in the past. If I can visit the camper during the winter to check on it when I can.

Dave and Doris October 27, 2019 If you can’t get to it to remove snow. You could support roof from inside with a couple of 2x4,s in center of trailer in a T shape.  Wrap contact points in towels so not to mark up ceiling and floor.  Or snowshoes 😀.

OurMobileBackPack October 29, 2019 We have been in as cold as 24 without any problems with freezing water in tanks , they are hidden under your rig. Your fresh water hose will freeze and be useless so I would put some water in your fresh water tank and disconnect your hose.

MJ&RJ October 31, 2019 Never just use tarping material to cover RVs. They don’t breathe and then you get rot and moisture buildup. Invest in a Adco cover for the job specificly. You have too much money invested to cheap out on tarps and future problems.
