If the RV park says we should have 60 channels, our channel search will find 49; the next search will find 42; and the next search will find 37. A handyman brought his cable signal meter and we began the process of elimination. Running a cable straight from the TV out the window to the electric/cable pedestal the signal is very strong. But when we connect the TV cable to the proper exterior port the signal is poor when it gets to the TV. We removed the cable wall plate behind the TV and tested the cable that runs through the walls: it is bad. The signal is extremely weak. Maybe a nail was driven through the cable somewhere, or there is some kind of signal interference along the line within the walls or at the split. In any event we don't know how to remedy the situation. Your suggestions are appreciated! less

When you say "redo" the connectors (the threaded bits at either end of the cable) do you mean replace them? Yes we know the split to the bedroom may be the problem. We don't know where the split is located in the wall. Thanks for your suggestion.

Each splitter cuts the signal in half. Wow. Good to know. I'm thinking we'll have to schedule an eventual service appointment with the manufacturer to remove the walls and locate the splitter. Thanks so much for your comment.

Glad to help. I’m certainly no expert. What I do know about splitters though is that any unused ports MUST be terminated (meaning a terminator cap installed on each unused port). My splitters we’re located behind a panel in the entertainment center area.

I looked again at all the wires attached to the cable wall plate behind the TV. I found two splitters and they both need to be terminated. Your help has narrowed down the probable source of the problem. We'll termination cap the two unused splitter ports, and we'll find someone to change out the connectors on both ends of the main cable. If these repairs do not fix the problem, we'll know the issue is with the main cable itself. less

I pulled out all the manufacturers splitters (most in the Box Of Many Buttons) and installed Winegard RFL-332 Sensar Pro Signal Meter. It switches between cable and antenna inputs and has two TV outputs. It will send power to your roof top antenna's preamp and can provide a little gain to the signal. My favorite feature is the Signal Meter that allows you to peak the signals prior to running a channel scan on your TV. less

Cable from the outside port went direct to a splitter in the false bottom of the TV cabinet/entertainment center. It was not accessible without breaking out the paneling to replace it. There was also a power on/off switch for off air room antenna hidden in the same place. The power antenna amp needs to be switched off on ours for the outside cable to work. We added Dish satellite dish and Blu Ray players as other optional inputs and moved everything where we could get at it without a hammer and a crowbar. Stupid design by the manufacturer. less

They reconfirmed the TV cable inside the walls was bad, either the connectors or the cable itself. Instead of replacing the connectors on the TV cable, they decided to attach the park's cable to the exterior satellite port. The TV was connected to the satellite port behind the TV and it worked. The signal tested very strong and the inconsistent channel search issue has been resolved. An easy work around. Thank you for your input! less

Do you have a rooftop TV antenna to pickup off the air TV signals? Winegard Batwing antenna are the cheapest and most common. Our motorhome came from the factory with a splitter that had 1 input and 4 outputs, although only 2 were used. Replacing that with a smaller splitter that was 1 input and 2 outputs improved the signal quality without doing anything else, and was a $5 fix. less
