Hi all- I’m fairly new to RVing and have usually only camped in warm weather in Arizona. Long story short I’m in Amarillo Texas for the night and it was 75 today and had no idea it was going to be 30 tonight!
    1) My Rv has “tank heater...  more

Ray & Gay Ladner April 16, 2020 At 30 degrees I don't think you need to worry about the tanks. The water hose maybe depends on how long it stays 30 or lower. JMO

boilerup404 April 16, 2020 Thanks. Just to be safe I went ahead and disconnected the water for the night. I also turned the tank heaters on although I’m also not sure if that was the right thing to do.

SouthParkSteve April 16, 2020 I believe the tank heaters are for your grey and black tanks.  Depending on your rig, the fresh water tank is probably inside anyway.  And, as Ray & Gay said, at 30 degrees, you are probably not in much danger of anything inside freezing, unless...  more

Ray & Gay Ladner April 16, 2020 You didn't hurt anything cutting them on. You will figure out over time and experience that you do what makes you comfortable. You got this.

Vince & Sue April 16, 2020 As most others said, you don't have to worry about the waste tanks freezing at 30F. We've overnighted in much colder weather with out any problems.   Disconnecting the water hose is a good idea as well as making sure your waste hose has been drained.

Razorbackmark April 17, 2020 I don’t worry about tank heaters until in low 20s. Or even teens. The water hose if below 30. I’ve got a columbus 320 my tank heaters are only on grey and black tanks.

Dave Cobb April 17, 2020 Good morning, hope things worked out last night. You had said your fresh tank was empty, and I’d suggest you might want to always have some amount of fresh water onboard. We never really know when we travel or are stopped if we are going to arrive...  more

Robbie & Alice April 17, 2020 Fill the fresh water tank...Much harder for it to freeze if it is full.

Fridge Defend by ARP April 17, 2020 Love the screen name BOILERUP, ask if you do not know why :) A lot of good advice above! We spend the winter at 3500 feet elevation in S. CA.  We live the rest of our life in Montana, so we deal with freezing weather year round! You wil...  more

Catleth April 17, 2020 You can get a heated hose for the water too.

Rob and Karen Bibber April 21, 2020 We have done quite a bit of winter in our RV and we don't have tank heaters at all. At 30 degrees nothing to worry about. Just make sure the furnace comes on occasionally so it will heat the underbelly. We have gone through below zero weather before.
