Habadabeer May 25, 2020 With Covid isolation in full swing, now is the perfect time to find an empty mall parking lot, and take advantage of the painted lines. If you can find a couple of traffic cones, so much the better. Practice not only backing up, but giving an...  more

Jenna & The ZARGON May 25, 2020 #1 TIP - Don't even think about towing without proper Safety Chains or Cables connecting the trailer to the tow vehicle!  Check all Running Lights before you move even 1 inch!!!  If it is anything bigger than a Tear-Drop, m...  more

Cinn May 25, 2020 When towing a car, even a quick run into a store -- remember to grab the key out of the ignition of the car, throw something over the auxiliary braking device on the floor to hide it, and and lock the door! I've heard of folks having that very expensive i...  more

Jenna & The ZARGON May 25, 2020 That's why I have multiple KEYS.. Yes I have to leave one in the ignition to put the car in Neutral in order to tow flat... but I lock the door with another key... so it is "somewhat" secure, should we need to go in to a store or have dinner etc.  So...  more

Cinn May 25, 2020 Nope, my car won't allow me to lock the door with the spare key while another key is in the ignition. Tried it.

Kevin/Yvonne & 4 Doxies May 26, 2020 Are your windows electric? If they are and have an automatic close when started you can leave the key in, open the window, reach in and lock from the outside, the roll the window closed. I use that process occasionally when I have to leave my truck runnin...  more

Seann (the Canadian) May 25, 2020 When backing up move your hand to the bottom of the steering wheel, if you want to go left move that hand left if you want to go right move that hand right..

Jenna & The ZARGON May 25, 2020 Whoa!   Awesome TIP Seann!  6 thumbs up on that one!!!  For a Trailer 3 point hitch situation only.  Never back up a 4 down "Toad"! It will jackknife because you cannot control the front wheels.  Unlike a Hay Wagon where the tongu...  more

        Cinn May 25, 2020 @Seann I think that works for Class A's?
      • RVillage RVoices
Seann (the Canadian) May 25, 2020 NO .. that is for backing a trailer. Backing a motor home is the same as backing a car only a loooot longer.

Habadabeer May 25, 2020 @Seann, great technique that I use all the time. The description I use to clarify how it works is:

Hold the steering wheel at the bottom, and push it in the direction you want the BACK of the trailer to move when backing up.

Mikell & Jan May 26, 2020 I had a Key Blank made at a lock smith. It is what I call a Dumb key. It will lock and unlock the doors, it also will turn the ignition, but it will NOT start the car.

Cinn May 26, 2020 A friend of mine is going to be towing his Toyata Prius behind his 25' motorhome on a tow dolly. Any special considerations for that? Can he back it up?

Gary Johnson June 3, 2020 We bought the whole setup for pulling our ‘toad’ behind the motor home. On our first stop, the key would not fit into the lock on the pin on the Jeep. Two pair of Channellocks were able to ‘handle’ the lock. Since then I have always removed our tow bar an...  more
