May 29, 2020new to RV'ing. Have 2 small dogs, Franklin (a toy poodle mix) and Gabrial (full blooded toy poodle). Looking for ideas on how to keep them safe while driving down the road. Neither of them have ever even been in a kennal or travel cage.

Trumer and Co May 29, 2020 I have tethers that attach to seat belt and their harness. They can move around to the limits of the seat belt, yet are safe if I have to hit the brakes.

R&J Miller May 29, 2020 This is what we have been thinking about. Sounds safe for them and us but also comfortable too.

R&J Miller May 29, 2020 My guys are both getting up in the years. Not sure I want to attempt to get them used to traveling and to a new crate idea at the same time. Thanks for your thoughts.

Kevin/Yvonne & 4 Doxies May 29, 2020 Ours had traveled with us and always wanted to be on our laps. The whining drove my wife nuts until she would give in. We bought a 5ver and truck. The 1st time we put them in the truck we put them in a crate. They associate the crate with the truck and ha...  more

wendyannh May 30, 2020 Loose dogs, as with *any* loose object, also turn into projectiles in the event of an accident - or even a hard, fast stop. I've not seen an animal go through a windshield (yet), thank God, but in my paramedic days, I saw enough human heads ...  more

Flowermama May 30, 2020 I bought a doggy car seat for Caramel. It has a collar tether and she's protected on all four sides. It boosts her up so she can see out the window no matter where she's sitting.

Mark & Anneliese (Hicks At Home) May 30, 2020 That is what we have but do not hook the tether to her collar please.

Flowermama June 5, 2020 I was wondering about that. Wouldn't that cause a problem? Where I have her seat, I can't see her while driving if my son is in the passenger seat. I'd be afraid she'd hang herself if she jumped out the back!

la4ce June 7, 2020 Where did you get it and how big is your dog? Mine is 20 lbs.

Kevin/Yvonne & 4 Doxies May 30, 2020 Always have identification/contact information on your furbabies. Microchips help, but when you are traveling they don't always know their way home. Stay safe and keep them safe🤠😎🙂
