June 29, 2020We are experiencing a hot battery, thank goodness hubby caught it just in time. We have 4-12v batteries. Only one was hot to touch and emitting an odor. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has experienced this.
    • morganb and 4 others like this.

morganb June 29, 2020 We had something similar. For us we found it was due to the loose connector on the terminals.
Wonder what else could cause that.

Andy & Maureen T June 29, 2020 Could be as simple as low water in battery / batteries. Also, if your voltage on the battery is below 11.9, the battery needs to be replaced. Don't forget to use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when checking battery water levels.

Jenna & The ZARGON June 29, 2020 Just to elaborate... PPE for batteries should be a fulll face protective mask, not just saftey glasses and elbow length rubber gloves... or at least NITRILE gloves that are acid resistant.  NO SMOKING or OPEN FLAMES!!!  Use the battery disconnec...  more

Kevin & Leslie June 29, 2020 There are a lot of amps in those batteries! I sliced a nice hole in my aluminum wall by letting the battery cable just a bit too close to it.

Don Estey June 30, 2020 The truth is one could be hooked up wrong or a short inside one of the cells. Either way you will need a new battery
One of the people who disconnected mine hooked it up wrong and it boiled dry.

Rick & Lil July 1, 2020 Sounds like one battery went dry or bad (shorted). It can happen. If one of a set does that, it probably was a bad one....even after a few years while the others are still good.
