Barriepair Why didn't I think of that? Tips and Tricks:
December 5, 2020Question for all you folks who have long hair - how do you keep the hair out of the shower drain? I (Maureen) lose an extraordinary amount of hair every time I shower regardless of whether or not I brush it first. Not sure how I'm not bald yet!
    Thanks for...  more

RebeccaJW December 5, 2020 This is a great question! I’d love to hear some advice as well.

Ray & Ann December 5, 2020 I don't but our dog does and the plate that came on the drain catches it but I've seen ads for a silicone catch.
Our shower drops straight into the gray tank so no plumbing to clog and I haven't seen clumps when draining the gray tank

Seann (the Canadian) December 5, 2020 Check on Amazon for a product called a sink shroom it's a soft plastic rubber doohickey that goes in the drain and catches hair etc

JoeTex16 December 5, 2020 Not sure how to answer your question, as we seldom use our shower; we mostly use the RV Park's shower. But as a caution, have you had your thyroid level checked? Losing hair is one of the symptoms. I know, as I went through that and now take meds to co...  more

Suzan and Art December 5, 2020 JoeTex16:  good suggestion but even when my thyroid levels are right it didn't change the amount of hair I lose.  I use a metal drain cover that collects hair and soap scum.

Barriepair December 5, 2020 Thanks for the concern! My thyroid levels are normal, I just tend to shed more than normal people lol. Always have 🤷‍♀️

Morgan B. December 5, 2020 Awesomw question! We use something like this. If you search online for shower drain catcher you'll find all sorts of different products that may fit what you're looking for.

BLSMSS (Brenda &Marc) December 5, 2020 We have a basket like in our shower plus we use something like a drain router , which is a long piece of plastic with little hook, that you put down in your drain and turn it and pull our any hair that the basket missed.

Road Katz December 5, 2020 I have the same issue. We use these. Large one in the shower drain, small one in the bathroom sink. Works great.

WeareMovinforward December 5, 2020 When we wash the dog we cover the drain with the stuff you use on shelves to keep your dishes from sliding. It does a great job of trapping the hair. BTW they sell it at the dollar store.

Michelle Jackson the Galavanting Gram December 5, 2020 I use the Shroom or a cheaper version you can find in the Walmart plumbing section. I find they work better than the metal baskets or shower plates.

Diana & Michael December 5, 2020 I have the same hair loss issue in the shower.  But my real problem is the low water pressure of RV showers. It takes too long to rinse out the shampoo. So on hair wash days I use the campground shower, assuming adequate water pressure!  I test each showe...  more

Mac and Suzanne December 5, 2020 I use the sink screens also. At home and in our rv. They work great and you can pick them up at Dollar Tree. My hair is past my waist and they really stop the hair from going down the drain.

Rick & Lil December 13, 2020 We've been taking a hair & nail supplement daily for years. It helps us keep strong nails & good hair. We're both on the downhill side of 65 and loose very little hair in the shower.
