December 6, 2020Looking for any ideas on what our problem might be. We have had a rotten egg smell coming out of the hot water faucet in the bathroom.... no other faucet. We just cleaned the hot water tank with vinegar and then sanitized the water system with bleach. ...  more

Gene & Jeanne Deery December 6, 2020 Thanks, I believe some... but not noticeable.  We have been staying long term at a well water park.  But still, only the one hot water faucet has the problem.

Norm & Ann Burgess December 6, 2020 Could have had some bad water in the hot water line to the bathroom. I would just run the faucet until the smell goes away. That should flush out the hot water heater also.

GH08556 December 6, 2020 Check out your anode. If the anode Is heavily pitted then you may want to change and put in aluminum anode. Magnesium reacts with sulfites in water which can cause H2S smells you’re getting.

Gene & Jeanne Deery December 6, 2020 Thanks, but our Atwood model water heater does not have an anode.  And the problem is only in the hot water faucet in the bathroom sink....no other hot water faucets.

adduddell December 6, 2020 I heard that if you get any anitfreeze into the water heater lines~youre doomed to the rotten egg smell forever.

Fastfwd December 6, 2020 odd that it is only one faucet, friends had same problem but all faucets, they used a water treatment might try that and let sit in hot tank awhile, would try bleach again. if not maybe stuck in that line.

John & Ann Martin December 6, 2020 You can also get a rotten egg smell when you are near the end of a tank of propane.  The manufacturer adds a rotten egg smell product to propane so you can smell it if there is a leak.  The rotten egg smell product is heavier than the propane and tends to...  more

TheClearyClan December 6, 2020 We had that rotten egg smell when using the hot water, however before I went nuts fixing it I went to the camp's shower house and that smell was there as well. So the problem was with the camp's water. We put one of those blue water filters on the city wa...  more

Habadabeer December 6, 2020 I have no idea if it would make a difference, but what if you went through the winterization process using compressed air (as opposed to anti-freeze) to force any liquid contaminant out. Then leave everything open to drain and dry for a few days? Follow u...  more

Gene & Jeanne Deery December 18, 2020 Here is an update for all those that tried to help.  My son in law got into the “basement” of the fifth wheel and followed the pipes.  He noticed that there was a pipe that ran off our bathroom sink hot water line.  It went to the bedroom closet that was ...  more
