MRJohnston March 22 Our inverter/charger keeps our 6 Battleborn batteries charged.  It is a Magnum 2000 and the only thing we had to do upon installing the batteries was upgrade the remote (located in the MH) so we could access the ‘advanced’ menu to set the correct charging...  more

LarryA March 22 Portable panels are a PITA IMO.

Seann (the Canadian) March 22 Replace the converter with a new one that can be set up for lithium battery
    • Dreamers and Travelers/ Tom & Prescott
Pianotuna March 22 you could add a dc to DC charger which would work with what ever input sources you have now. I bought one to use with SiO2 jars.

LarryA March 22 Be careful. Improper charging of lithium batteries can destroy or greatly harm them.

Dreamers and Travelers/ Tom & Prescott March 22 Thanks for your info. The DC-DC sys is not going to work unless I spend even more on an alternator suited for the task. Thus wanting a charge to use on shore power or generator. We currently have a nice setup in our 5th wheel and are 'robbing' two ...  more

MRJohnston March 22 Your two 100 watt portable panels will definitely work with only two batteries to charge, although for sure it is recommended at least 2 to 1 watts to amps.  At 1 to 1 it will just take longer.  An MPPT controller is also recommended, to harvest excess vo...  more

Tom & Barb March 22 Progressive Dynamics makes a good converter made for lithium batteries. I bought their 60 amp model because that was the most power available for charging using a 15amp circuit. It was easy to replace the previous 45amp Progressive Dynamics AGM converter/charger.

John T March 23 Dreamers, You're welcome.....IF ?? you had 400 Solar Watts on the roof PLUS a portable 200 Watt set out and IFFFFFFFFFFFFFF all are wired, configured and controlled correctly ??? that can provide "a decent degree" of charge to your (as you stated above) 6...  more

Dreamers and Travelers/ Tom & Prescott March 25 Yes sir John T. The two 'portable' solar panels are doubtful adding much to our 600ah bank. I will use those when we switch to our truck camper. Really only taking a batteries along & the two 100w 'port' solar panels. They each Coleman panels having their...  more

Dreamers and Travelers/ Tom & Prescott March 27 John T - Thanks so much! Tom & Barb March 27 Just a precaution, the PD9180LV requires a 20A circuit in the RV. Since most all circuit breakers in RV's are 15A, that implies the wiring is only adequate for 15A, even if I upgraded the charger breaker to 20A, so I chose the PD9160LV which only require...  more

Pianotuna March 28 John, The PD units often have a power factor of 0.7 so that 1168 watts becomes 1669 watts. That is going to push a 20 amp circuit to the limit. It also means a Hondo 2000 or similar unit may not "fill the bill". I'd recommend the 2200. But I'm old so I ...  more

Tom & Barb March 28 John T, your assessment is spot on. In my case replacing the wire would have been difficult to replace, as the charger recepticle socket was 8' from the panel, snaking behind cabinetry. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would have been a true PIA. ...  more

John T March 29 Pianotuna, thanks for the kind words. As I noted when I designed per NEC guidelines I wouldn't allow more then 80% or 16 amps "Maximum Continuous Current" on a 20 amp Branch Circuit which would equate to 1920 watts...The 1669 Watts you mentioned equates t...  more
